The discovery of Ocean kyanite for me happened back in 2017 when I had the once and a lifetime opportunity to head out to the Northern Territory to explore the majestic landscape of the Harts Ranges. Prior to then I had never really known about this unique colour of kyanite or the rarity and appreciation of it in the world. After arriving at the only area in Australia that ocean kyanite is found, I was immediately captivated and in awe. I felt as though i had quite literally stepped back into a time where the dinosaurs roamed. The energy surrounding this place was mystifying to the soul to say the least. There was no urgency, no impatience just a quiet moment of beauty. After taking a few moments of drawing in this surreal feeling, we set up camp and relaxed by the eavesdropping campfire to daydream about the next day's potential discoveries.

As Dawn ascended I awoke with a fiery enthusiasm to unearth some of my very own ocean kyanite crystals. We headed out through the overgrown flaxen hills in per-suite of the tucked away ridge that would become the place of my new found discovery of ocean kyanite. We finally arrived at our destination as the mid morning sun began to beat down with a promise of relentless heat and sunburn. What I saw baffled me, there before me was beautiful teal coloured kyanite shedding from mica schist EVERYWHERE on the ground. I threw my back pack down and immediately got to unearthing my very own rare kyanite crystals. With each crystal that i pulled out of the earth I was even more captivated, they were all so unique and enchanting in their own way. Even the ones that lacked in transparency still held that ever-so magical azure.

There is something to be said about turning your own hand-collected crystals into jewellery.
I feel it transforms the crystals into a whole new celebration of the mineral kingdom where nature and the human hand bring the best out in each other. Coming home and washing away all the mica that encased these beauties re-awakened that magical moment of discovering them for the first time again. I knew there and then that I was destined to share their story not only as individual crystals but also through the alchemy of hand crafted silver jewellery.
